Q: what is up with the gas mileage of my 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS?
It is a V6 engine 3.3 liter engine. I am getting around 16 miles to the gallen. That is absurd. It only has 15,000 miles on it. I am soooo dissappointed that I bought this car. It guzzles way too much gas. Anybody out there familiar with the Sonata V6 and whether this is just my car, or all 2009 Hyunday Sonata's Anybody know?

A: Does your car have a trip computer that is calculating the mileage? I drive 100% in town in my Hyundai Azera Limited and get 18 mpg, I only drive 12 miles a day so that is fine, plus on long trips I get 25-27 mpg. You don't tell us how you drive or where you drive, so we can't say if your mpg is absurd. However, I would expect you to get 19 mpg (EPA estimate for city) if you drive 100% city like I do. Is the gas mileage the only thing you are disappointed about with your Sonata? How many miles are you driving per week? Heck I only use about 1 tank of gas every 3-4 weeks in my Azera. Post your complaint here, http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm You'll see that other owners of your model average 26mpg, though mostly driving highway.

Q: Is it common for a 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS to have air conditioner problems?
I'm using my air conditioner a lot lately because of the humidity in the air. I noticed a fair amount of water under the car in the garage after I got back home today. Is this normal? I just bought the car with 14,000 miles on it.

A: Yes - the use of the AC causes condensation. it will be worse when there is more humidity in the air. Your car is fine.

Q: Why does 2009 hyundai sonata get dust in the trunk?
We've taken it to the dealership several times and they can't find anything wrong. There is literally a layer of dust in the trunk after driving down a gravel road, almost like the trunk isn't sealed or there is a whole, anyone have any ideas or advice?

A: It is a bad trunk seal. It needs to be replaced.

Q: Does a 2009 Hyundai Sonata downshift in manual mode if ur foot is on the gas pedal?
Also if I downshift it from 3rd to 2nd gear in the Sport-tronic (without stepping on the gas) will its transmission match the rev by itself??

A: Yes, it will match the rev's and will let you do the shifting how you want it....up to a point. If the downshifting will put the engine over 5600 RPM's the downshifting will not be done. All this is to protect the engine from blowing. In situations like this, the TCM (transmission Control Module) will take over the shifting in order to protect the engine. Same scenario if you forget to up shift and you rev the engine too high, then the TCM will take over and will shift one gear up. No matter what mistake you do, the power train is protected against mistake.

Q: Does the iPod cable come included with the purchase of a new Hyundai Sonata 2009 Limited edition car?
Just bought my car yesterday and am not sure if the cable is suppose to come with the car. I thought I read somewhere it does. I bought one from Hyundai for my old Sonata but want another one for the new Sonata.

A: Nope, you have to buy it from the dealer. Mine was $29.95

Q: I am looking to buy a used 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS?
It has around 14,000 miles. V6 3.3 They are asking $17,000 before taxes. Is this a good deal or not? What would be a good price for this car?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carquotes.fateback.com

Q: I want to make my hyundai sonata 2009 solar powered?
I'm no car mechanic but some of my family could definitely help me out. Where do I even start? I know there are probably some kits out there but I don't have a clue of where to begin looking. Thx in advance for the answers!

A: The only practical way to solar power a car is to have an electric car charged by a solar array at a charging station during the day. The amount of solar needed to charge the batteries is far larger than you can fit on a car. Some companies like Google are providing their employees with a solar charging station built into a carport in the parking lot to recharge their electric cars. Many people do put solar on their RVs to power the lights and TV and such, but you can't put enough on to make it run.

Q: Anthign I can do to soup up my 2009 Hyundai Sonata (4cylinder)?
Hey. I'm not much of a car guy but I"m always looking for fun projects to do, and working on my car looks like one. I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, 4 cylinder (weak sauce...I know). Is there anything I can do to add more horsepowerr, or a bit more kick to it?

A: You have a vehicle that was designed as an economy vehicle, not a race car....enjoy the 35 + mpg, especially when the price of fuel climbs again

Q: How smooth does the Hyundai Sonata 2009 GLS V4 drive?
is it noisy? does it drive well compared to its V6 counterpart? is the car reliable? i.e. will it go up t 200k miles?

A: Not noisy at all, lots of sound deafening materials and it drives smooth as silk. The I4 (no V4) has plenty of power and will last just as long as the V6. Yes, both motors will go to 200K or more with proper care as listed in the owners manual. Now, if you plan to carry multiple passengers and luggage you may want to opt for the V6, but with 175 HP and 168 TQ the Sonata I4 has more power then most V6's from the late 90's and gets 3 mpg better then the V6. http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicle/sonata/specs/specs.aspx

Q: Today my 2009 Hyundai Sonata semi-stalled and the check engine light came on.?
The check engine light came on. Restarted car, light still o. Drove to dealership. They will call tomorrow, said repair probably under warranty. Any possible causes? Thanks

A: this is usually emissions / fuel / ignition related. a sensor or perhaps a bad ignition wire. maybe a spark plug gone bad? most likely its nothing to be too concerned about as these are probably the most common minor problems of today's cars. even newer ones

Q: Can 2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited tow 1986 Hyundai Pony.?
Can 2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited (auto, fwd) tow a 1986 Hyundai Pony (rwd, auto)? The Sonata has 175hp 2.4L, it weighs about 3200Lbs. and the pony weighs about 2050Lbs. I was just wondering how i could tow the car with Uhaul trailer. Can i tow the car with one of the trailers that has front wheels hanging off the trailer while rear wheels on the ground? And how Thanks. Also could i tow this from Winnipeg MB, To Toronto ON?

A: im gonna say NO. if you try it, it will be absolute hell on your transmission for one. the front wheel dolly needs to be attached to the tow car so you'd need a hitch/receiver and it would need to be big enough and strong enough to attach that trailer to. sure your sonata has some horsepower but it doesnt have the torque or the right torque curve. and it was just not designed to be a tow vehicle. i wouldnt do it

Q: What could cause loud fan noise at high fan speed in 2009 Hyundai Sonata?
There appears to be a loud fan noise when the air conditioner is run at the highest setting, not at lower settings, in my 2009 Hyundai Sonata. The air conditioner seems to be sending cold air into the cabin. Is this aproblem or is this normal at high fan speed? Thanks There appears to be a loud fan noise when the air conditioner is run at the highest setting, not at lower settings, in my 2009 Hyundai Sonata. The air conditioner seems to be sending cold air into the cabin. Is this a problem or is this normal at high fan speed? The noise seems to be a loud whine, not noticed before. Thanks I just had the oil changed at a Jiffy Lube. They took out the cabin air filter, asked if I wanted it changed. I said no, since it was changed in February. Could they have put the filter in wrong?

A: It is possible that you may have some stuck leaves or other debris like pine straw in your blower motor wheel blades. Open your glovebox,on the right side of your glovebox you will see what looks like a black plastic link rod, next gently squeeze the the split nub with your forefinger and thumb to unlock the link rod from the glovebox and push the rod aside. Next take both hands, one on the left and one on the right side of the glovebox and pull she sides of the glovebox inward enough to clear the bumper stops. Let the glove box hang on it's own when released from the opening. Next you will look straight back behind the glovebox opening and see like a black strip of plastic with 4 tabs, 2 on each side, this is where your in-cabin air filter goes, with each hand take thumb and forefinger and squeeze tabs down while pulling back on cover. Do you see a paper filter element? if not you vehicle may be missing one. Verify next that the a/c system and blower fan are off, You can stick a few fingers in the slot and feel for any leaves/debris in the fan wheel and turn the fan by hand, Any debris found? If so pick them out. If filter is dirty, replace it. Install the filter cover and glovebox back in place and verify if the roar type noise went away on hi fan speed. If so, you fixed and found the problem.
