Q: How reliable is a 2009 Hyundai Elantra?
How many miles do you think I can expect to put on it before it breaks down? I had a 2004 Hyundai Sonata and drove it for 150,000 miles without one single repair, but that was a 6 cylinder car. Do you think I can expect the same results with the 4 cylinder Elantra? We really need a new car that can make it 5 years and 160,000 miles without breaking down and is fairly inexpensive. The Honda Civic sounds better but it seems pricier. What do you think?
A: This was sent Monday, 6/22, to my wife from Hyundai NA and I truly believe it will answer your question...
HYUNDAI FINISHES FIRST IN JD POWERS INITIAL QUALITY SURVEY (non-luxury)
AHEAD OF TOYOTA! …… AHEAD OF HONDA! …….AHEAD OF NISSAN!
AHEAD OF ALL OTHER NON LUXURY or PREMIUM MANUFACTURERS
This is Great News!!! See Below!
FROM THE DESK OF JOHN (Last name removed)…
Hyundai has once again accomplished an outstanding quality achievement, with the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Survey (IQS3) naming Hyundai the Number One Non-Premium auto maker for quality. We finished ahead of Toyota, Honda and Nissan, first among non-premium nameplates and fourth overall behind only Lexus, Porsche and Cadillac.
*Hyundai #1 Non-Premium Nameplate, beating Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and all the rest of our competition
*Hyundai #4 in Industry, behind only Lexus, Porsche, and Cadillac
*Genesis #1 “All New/Re-Designed Model,” and ties the Lexus brand
*Elantra #1 in the Compact Car Segment, beating Prius, Civic, and Corolla
*Elantra is also a “Top 10 Industry Leading Model” (out of 245 models)
*Accent #2 in the Sub-Compact Car Segment, (missing #1 by just one point)
This is the second time in four years that Hyundai has beaten all other non-premium nameplates. We’re planning a very aggressive public relations and marketing program to get this powerful quality message out to consumers and drive new Hyundai customers to our showrooms.
So, with all that said don't believe the naysayers who still think Hyundai is a 2nd class auto.
Q: How can I listen to my iPod in a 2009 Hyundai Elantra?
I must be doing something wrong. I try to use my iPod through the USB port, but it's impossible to pick which song I want to listen to, it's like on random all the time. There's no way Hyundai would make such a lame design. Does anyone know how to do it properly?
A: i have a 2009 hyundai sonata limited.... mine does the same but my sister's works perfectly, it syncs. I was told by my sister that i needed to format the song files properly for the audio system to recongize what song is playing so it could display on the display area and put them in order again. OR you could by the $29,99 usb adapter they sell at the hyundai dealership :) good luck.
Q: What are the headlight bulb types on a 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring?
Buying one today and would like to get an HID kit for the projectors. Would they be the same type as on the Euro I30? Thank you!
A: The Elantra Touring IS the i30.
Only thing different is the name.
Q: What is the air temp of the air conditioning in my 2009 Hyundai Elantra supposed to be?
When the ac is on max ac and the highest fan level, the air comes out at 45 degrees. The cabin is only cooled 10-15 degrees. So when it is 90 outside, it is 75-80 in the car (Depending on if the thermometer was in the sun or shade). Does this sound right? Is the air supposed to be coming out colder?
A: What interval we are talking about here? How long it takes to get down to 75-80F inside the cabin? The best way to check is to measure temperature coming out of the dash nozzles. With a laser temperature measuring devise pointed towards the center nozzle, you should register around 40F degrees blasting out. The best time is to take measurements after few minutes of A/C operating at full blast (step 4 on fan speed and only after few minute of full operation). Anything above 40F (3to4 Celsius degrees) indicates a problem in the system, mainly related to a very slow leak (refrigerant) or insufficient amount of R134A refrigerant. If you find this inappropriate for you, just take it to dealer. Just make sure you ask the dealer prior to inspection if this will cost you anything. Usually, recharging the A/C system has a limited warranty coverage for only 1 year or 20.000 miles (whichever comes first).
Message for "8675309" user: No, recharging the A/C system will not give you a better operation or generate colder air. You can't put more or less refrigerant than the system is designed for. Less refrigerant will not blast any cold air and will lock the clutches on the compressor (will not damage the compressor-just lock it to protect it).Excessive refrigerant will Open the excess valve on compressor "spitting" out the excessive amount. You will see a green liquid all over the radiator and condenser. Not a good Idea.
Hope this will help both of you guys.
Good luck.

Q: Anyone know how many miles I can expect a 2009 Hyundai Elantra to last? Mostly highway miles.?
Should we expect it to run 180,000 to 200,000 miles easy, or is this a pipe dream?
Thanks Kenny! Good advice.
Shane ...thanks for your help!
A: Elantra is one of the most reliable vehicle in it's class. Hyundai had made some updates at the engine beginning with 2004 models where they have introduced the CVVT technology. Otherwise, they have been using the same power train since 2001 models. I have several cars coming in the shop with well over 200,000 miles and still running in top shape. Overhaul, people are happy about their Hyundai. Keep it up and take good care of the vehicle and the vehicle will take good care of you.
I have the experience in a Hyundai dealer to tell you that Elantra is one of the best car in the line.
Q: I just bought a 2009 Hyundai Elantra GLS. At the dealer I was told that when I shift the car back into park,?
the doors would unlock automatically. They did when I test drove the car. Now that I am home and have been driving the car around town, they do not unlock when I shift the car into park. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it so that the doors do unlock when the car is put back into park? Thanks!
A: This is a programmable feature on your car. You can turn it on and off. Consult with your owners manual and it will tell you how to activate this feature. If all else fails, you can always ask the dealer.
Q: how to reset oil indicator light on a 2009 hyundai elantra?
Recently had an oil change but the mechanic did not know how to reset the oil indicator light
A: They put car manuals in cars for a reason... I would suggest you take time to read it. You can learn a lot about your car that way.
Q: What is the "tps" light mean on a 2009 hyundai elantra?
A: If it's an error light then it's likely that your Throttle Position Sensor needs to be checked out.
Q: was it safe for me to have bought a brand new 2009 Hyundai Elantra (Cash4clunkers)?
for example would it surpass the 100,000 miles with ease, or do they still have problems?
A: You have purchased a top quality automobile. In fact, the 09 Elantra won the JD Power and Associates Initial Quality Award and is also Consumer Reports #1 rated small car.
The Elantra is a great car, you will not be sorry.

Q: i have a 2009 hyundai elantra gls with hankook h426 tires.?
the tires don,t seem to work very well in the rain. any body have any good or bad comments concerning these tires?
A: Despite the fact Hankook Optimo model H426 is called an all season tire, it is hard to believe that it will be very good in wet conditions. As you can see, the profile is not really made for wet weather. The best tires that handles well in rain are the "V" shape unidirectional. Yours have nothing of that shape. See this:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hankook&tireModel=Optimo+H426
Personally, I don't feel comfortable telling you that it handles well in wet condition. My rating is poor.
Just get your winter tires installed. You mentioned on an early question that you've just purchased new winter tires. Put them on and you'll have a better handling.
